Day 35
Weighed myself today....173.2 lbs. Yikes! Day 35....save me!
Stolen Quote of the Day:
“Middle class thinkers fail and retreat back to their comfort zone. World class thinkers fail and keep starting over until they succeed. Champions aren’t any smarter, more educated, or ambitious than the average person, but they are far more resilient. While middle class thinkers process their failures through emotion, world class thinkers process failure through logic. Middle class thinkers are ashamed of failing while world class thinkers see their resilience as a testament to their toughness.”
–Steve Siebold
Let's try to be world class y'all!
Breakfast (630a):
-3 eggs sunnyside up
-6 oz of bacon, 6 pieces
-24 oz of coffee with light vanilla cream (I'll go back to plain black next week)
Lunch (1130a) at Flame Broiler:
-Works Bowl - chicken, beef, all veggies, no rice. I think I'm just going to ride this out for the remainder of the week. Changes coming ahead!
-24 oz of diet coke
WOD:
-100 burpees :) Finished what I owed for the weekend.
-15-12-9 of 115lb clean and jerk, unbroken sets (ie touch and go on the ground...no resetting on the ground...no letting go of the bar). This one really hurt my forearms due to my lack of practice of the hook grip. Result: FINISHED. Between sets 15 and 12, I took just maybe 4 minutes to recover and do set 12.. However, between 12 and 9, my arms were throbbing so much that I think it may have take almost 8 minutes to do set 9.
-500m max row. Result: 1min43sec.
Dinner at Slater's 50/50 (8pm):
-2 tall beers (back to -100 burpees)
-1/3lb 50/50 burger, lettuce wrapped with roasted garlic, peppers, dill pickle, yadayadayada
-12 oz nutella chocolate shake (son of a...)

I probaby shouldn't have had the 2 beers but someone had a bad day (not me) so it was almost like a gesture to drink. Melisa, stop having bad days! Day 35 done (son).
By the way, this isn't me |

Day 29
Quote of the day:
"Listen, here's the thing. If you can't spot the sucker in the first half hour at the table, then you ARE the sucker. "
-Mike McDermott (Matt Damon) from Rounders
Breakfast (625am):
-2 eggs, sunnyside up
-5 oz steak
-24oz coffee with a splash of vanilla creamer
Lunch (1130a)
-8 oz of gyro meat on a bed of lettuce
-4 oz of hummus
-24 oz of diet coke
-4 oz of cranberry, almond, & cashew trail mix
WOD (530p-7p)
-Crossfit Endurance WOD 5 x 850m w/ 3min rest in between
Result: 28min8sec (with rest times included)...average 850m time ~3min13sec
-100 insurance burpees (brings total to 200 insurance burpees)
Dinner at Chipotle (730p):
-Steak bowl - steak, fajita mix, medium salsa, guacamole, and sour cream
-8oz diet coke
-3 oz of plantain chips
Day 28 - Terrible Tuesday
Not everyday is a good day. Today (Tuesday) was one of those days to forget. Nothing of tragic proportions, but one that I would like to do over. Anyway, here was my Day 28...
Breakfast (630a)
-3 eggs sunny side up
-6 oz of chicken sausage
-24 oz of coffee (with vanilla cream, yikes!)
Lunch at Flame Broiler (11am)
-Flame Broiler Works Bowl - chicken, beef, veggies, no rice
-24 oz of unsweetened iced tea
Snack
-5 oz of $7.49 Apple Crisp by Paleo People...I'm gonna have to buy this wholesale
WOD-
-200 insurance burpees
-Cash in 1000m run, then 5 rounds of 2 muscle ups, 4 squat snatches (75lbs), 8 pistols, then cash out with 1000m row. I modified the pistols by using a 10lb counter weight, and after the 1st round, I modified the muscle up with 2 chest to bar pullups and ring dips to equal 1 muscle up. I tried for about 25 minutes to get 2 muscle ups on the second round. This was why my day sucked ass. I will never do a muscle up workout after burpees, much less 200 of the burpees.
Result - DNF. I will do this again next week, same day, different result (I hope).
Dinner at Slater 50/50
-2/3lb of 50/50 burger with grilled onions, pickles, smashed avocado, and ?? (I was in a haze)
-16oz of sweet potato fries
-2 x 16oz of Stella Beer (see ya 100 burpees!)

Day 27
Day 27 and having the case of the Munnndayss. I woke up feeling like crap from this past weekend's debacle, which I truly truly deserve. Also, I found out that due to the nature of the 100 burpee challenge, I need to do 200 more burpees in addition to the 100 I did yesterday. I'll have to present my case and try to reverse the ruling on this one.
Breakfast (630am)
-3 eggs
-24 oz of coffee
-24 oz of coffee with 3 packets of cream (Coffeemate)
Lunch at Flame Broiler (1110am)
-Beef bowl - beef, all veggies and no rice
-24 oz of unsweetened iced tea
WOD (530p-7p)
-150 "punishment" burpees - 13 minutes, I think
-3 rounds for time: 5 deadlifts (275lbs), 10 kettlebell swings (53lbs), 15 pullups, 20 ring dips
Result - 11 minutes
Dinner (915p)
-5 oz of bacon

I know, I feel gross. I didn't have veggies to cook.
-12 oz of coconut juice with pul

Day 26
It's still the weekend so therefore "bad" sits around the corner.
Breakfast
NONE...I think I'm getting used to this intermittent fasting stuff but I'll limit it to only during the weekends. It's a pretty good way to cleanse the body of the bad stuff, though ironically, it's during the weekends that I am at my worst.
Lunch at Esther's (12pm):
-6 oz steak, 2 eggs, and 3 oz of chorizo
-flour tortillas, maybe around 10 oz worth...I totally forgot that this was a taco joint that always puts chips and salsa in front of you right after you get seated. I should've said that we didn't want it (a lie of course) but it was already there...and I was weak...damn it!
WOD (9a-10a)
-20 min AMRAP: 20 wallballs at 20lb, 10 pullups, 5 deadlifts at 205lbs, 400m run
Result: 6 rounds (finished 6th round in 23min somethin'somethin' seconds)
Insurance WOD (1030a)
-100 burpees
Result: 8min55sec.
The burpees are due to the anticipated drinking that will happen at the event below. I figured I'm still strong enough to the burpees and I knew I was going to drink, so why not do it before and not think about it later? I'll probably end up doing this for the rest of the week :)
Throughout the rest of the day and dinner-ish
Melisa and I went to our buddy Eamon's cousin's birthday (I hope I got that right). It was a pool party with beer...WITH BEER.
-10 oz coffee with Stevia
-5 bottles (12 oz or so) of Pacifico and Stella
-6 oz of salad
-6 oz of asparagus
-4 oz of baked salmon, which was freakin' awesome by the way
-a really really small scoop of spanish rice (1 oz)
-more chips and salsa and guacamole and melted cheese. I was just eating away so I don't know how much.
-10 oz of tri tip
-6 oz of fruit salad - strawberries, blueberries, raspberries, blackberries
-2 x 12oz of coconut juice

100 burpee challenge
Ok, so I'm laughing as I type this up. What if there are consequences if we have even a sip of alcohol before the nutritional challenge ends? I, Homer Maniago, propose the 100 Burpee Challenge. For everytime we have alcohol before the 60 days is over we pay for it by doing 100 burpees the next day. Obviously this will work under the honor code and will definitely make us think twice about being rediculously bad. Who's with me? Anybody?..Anybody?...helllooo? (I understand only 4 people somewhat follow this and I could very well be talking to myself).

Days 17, 18, 19 & 20
So I haven't actually posted anything these past few days and you're probably wondering why. It's called "shame." Those 3 things that I feared per my Day 16 post apparently all came true. Let's see if I can remember what I had.
Day 17 : 'twas an alright day...
Breakfast at IHOP (745am):
-Colorado omelette
-24oz coffe
-4 oz of mixed fruit
Lunch at Flame Broiler (12pm)
-Flame Broiler works bowl
-16oz of unsweetened ice tea
Snack
-5 oz of Apple Crisp by Paleo People...expensive but awesome
WOD:
-"Pizza and Beer" - 125 kettle bell swings at 53 lbs for time, but every minute on the minute 5 burpees must be done...therefore start with the burpees.
Result: 7min.28 seconds....this is a forearm burner and something that would probably make someone throw up.
But then....
Dinner at the Tilted Kilt in the LBC (8pm)...come on! it was a guys' night out and it was a buddy's birthday
-4 oz of grilled herb chicken, mixed vegetables
-8 oz bentley margarita (not paleo)
-2 norcal margaritas, on the rocks, double shot
-half pint of dos xx beer
-2 irish car bombs
-about 6 oz of fries (regular, garlic, and sweet potato)
-5 oz of Banana Crisp by Paleo People
That was Day 17.
Now for Day 18. Woke up hungover but like a trooper I pressed on...

Lunch at Wood Ranch Grill (12pm)
-10 oz of prime rib
-8 oz of broccoli
Dinner at Honda Ya in Downtown LA (Little Tokyo, yakitori and sushi place, 6pm)

-2 pork bellies
-1 chicken liver
-2 bacon-wrapped sausage
-2 something somethings. I forgot what they were called.
-3 oz of salmon sashimi (not yakitori)
-16 oz of Asahi beer
This was a buddy's going away event so we decided to move it to a hotdog/bar place called Wurstkuche:
-pint of an amber beer
-pint of light beer
-buffalo, beef, and pork with sweet peppers hot dog (yes, with the bun)
Day 18 done and now for Day 19
Breakfast (none, again)
I went to the movies and watched Hangover 2...movie sucked...had small popcorn
Lunch and Dinner (I had to put this together because I was in a haze for the most part)
-probably 12 oz of carne asada
-lots of tortilla chips with a guacamole dip and non-bean dip (this was freakin' awesome...i think it was made from cream cheese and salsa)
-???? oz of beer (Pacifico, bud light)
-few oz of skinny margarita (didn't help)
-more ???? oz of beer (went to a bar)
Day 20
Breakfast at Denny's (5am)...woke up in my car :)

-6 oz of rotisserie chicken
There you have it, Days 17 through 20

Good morning and Happy Wednesday! I need to refocus because I think I can do a lot better in this challenge. Let the 45 Day Challenge begin! Anyway, I weighed myself this morning at 6am...170.8lbs. Not too shabby.

I guess change is good for any of us
Whatever it take for any of y'all ni---z to get up out the hood
Sh--, I'm wit cha, I ain't mad at cha..."

So...
So recently I've been having conversations with some people regarding exercise and nutrition. It came up because one person in particular is having a great amount of stress at work and at home, and their fading physical health. Naturally I talked about crossfit and the paleolithic diet because heck, that's what we crossfitters do no matter how douche (spelling?) we sound. I explained what crossfit is and the idea behind it but somehow it progressed quickly to the price of becoming a member.
Obviously I talked about the higher membership fee of a crossfit gym compared to the globo gym that this person currently has. I made a point that a globo gym can only take you so far especially when you don't get the knowledge and support of an actual trainer on a regular basis like you would at a crossfit gym. Pay more now and get results OR keep paying the low membership fees and see absolutely nothing? Plus I think it's more fun to do workouts together with other people, creating a competitive and intense environment, than having to half-ass curls and treadmill runs alone. This person didn't budge, not even a bit. Price is important and I certainly understood that because of our current economic state.
Ok, fine. Crossfit is expensive and there is no money for it. Got it.
Maybe I could help this person out by talking about going paleo in their diet. I'm not the most knowledgeable person in the world regarding this subject, but I was able to point out bread and sugar = bad, meat and vegetables = good. To help my cause, I even emailed them some literarture and links to websites (i.e. robbwolf.com). I asked them to try it for 30 days, heck, even try it for 3 weeks because I'm sure they'll be able to see some results that it will work. This person responded with one excuse after another. A couple, in particular was "I know, I know...but it's too hard" and "(grains) is like a drug and I need it". Mind you, this is the person who knows the problem, wants a solution to the problem, gets a fire-proof solution to the problem, but can't muster up a little sacrifice to fix it.
Luckily that's how the conversation ended and this person walked away because I was just getting annoyed. I might have said things that I would regret so in a way that was a fine. It did make me realize something about some people...not everybody, just some. There are 2 kinds of people, the "go-getters" and the "pity me" type. Given the same problems, the "go-getters" will take the initiative to seek for help, seriously take up sound advice, and then try to fix it asap while the "pity me" type will wait 'til someone pities them enough to fix the problem for them. Unfortunately for the "pity me" type, there aren't that many willing to help as that's not how the world is.
(I know I probably didn't deliver this as well as I could but I was really bugged about this today)

Sunday Sunday Sunday!
Breakfast (845am):
-15oz steak - lemon marinated and onions
-1 egg, sunny-side up
WOD:
none. zero. nope. zilch. nada.
My calves are sore, probably because of the Inov-8s. Hopefully it's making my running technique better.
Lunch (1pm): Boiling Crab
-1 lb of shrimp with lemon, butter, garlic, and other sauces mixed together
-6 oysters
My hands wreaked afterwards, go figure.
Snack
-2 oz of dried mango
-4 oz of raw mixed nuts (no peanuts)
-4 oz of dried mango, papaya, pineapple mix
Dinner (7pm at Chili's, I am so poor now)
-half slab of baby back ribs,
-4 oz of marinated chicken
-6 oz of broccoli
-diet coke, 24oz
I ate plenty today but yet I wasn't satiated. I believe now that in order to feel this I either need to eat more vegetables or bread, and I'm not about to do the latter. See you tomorrow.

Day 11
I know it's early but I'm about to go to sleep...on a Saturday night...at 9pm....wow. Anyway, before I go to sleep, I'll give you a rundown on my day.
I wake up at 530 am and hit the snooze button twice, so technically I got up around 6am. I put on my running gear and drove to Huntington Beach to meet some friends for a morning run.
WOD (740am):
-6 mile run (something I was suppose to do last saturday). Finished in 52min, 20sec. I used my Inov-8 230s. They hurt my feet a little but I think it takes some getting used to. Oh well.
Brunch (1030am) at Sugar Shack, an awesome breakfast place:
-Banana
-8oz Steak and 2 eggs
-side of fruit
-also...........1 pancake with butter and syrup....I couldn't fight it, it smelled too good
I went to the movies later on, but instead of buying popcorn inside the theatre, I went to Trader Joe's.
-5oz or organic popcorn
-3.5oz of dark chocolate with almonds (73% cacao)
(Yes, I snuck these in)
-24oz of diet coke, no control over this
I saw Pirates of the Caribbean 4. 2-1/2 stars out of 4. Didn't really do it for me.
Dinner (730p) at Woodranch Grill:
-6oz of grilled, marinated atlantic salmon
-5oz of mashed sweet potatoes.
I have to start cooking more as my meals are getting more expensive. At least it wasn't a complete cheat day. Anyway, Day 11 done son!

-Firebeef burger - WITHOUT the bun, lettuced wrapped. Had cheese though but I deserved it (see WOD)
-10 pieces of sweet potato fries. Drew is an evil person.
They'll never get to read this because only 3 people follow me, but shout out to the Barbell for Boobs crew for hanging out with the Our Elite is Your Intermediate crew at Slater's as they were very cool.

I'm writing this before I go to sleep so I'll just tell you now that I ate better than the previous days. I weighed myself earlier this morning (6am) and the result.....(drum roll please!!)...175lbs. I freakin' gained 3 lbs from Day 2. At least it's well documented why I gained the extra weight...see Days 4 and 5.

-2 x 24oz of coffee-no cream, no sugar, no nothin!
Lunch (1140am)

Result Result: We beat the other Canyon Team...they know who they are.

It looks here like I'm going backwards with this diet, though I have not given up. I keep thinking to myself that it's ok to eat like crap because of the long workouts, like I somewhat deserve it. This is the wrong way of thinking so I'll try to do a better job in the coming days.

-24oz of Sam Adams
-2 chicken tenders
-Fries
-2 buffalo wings
-1 onion ring
-Another basket of fries
It looks here like I'm going backwards with this diet, though I have not given up. I keep thinking to myself that it's ok to eat like crap because of the long workouts, like I somewhat deserve it. This is the wrong way of thinking so I'll try to do a better job in the coming days.

Day 4
I was supposed to run 6 miles today but my right hamstring seems to be acting up. It possibly could be because of my 320 score for FGB!...WASSSSUPPP!! All kidding aside, I think it was because of my 185lb overhead squat that I just PRd on!...WASSSSUPPP x 2!!! In reality I don't know why. It could just be old age.
Breakfast
-4 pieces of bacon
-1 chicken sausage
-1 cube of fried pork ("krispy pata" to all the filipinos)
Ok. I post as soon as I could get a computer what I ate. This is not gonna be good because somehow I totally let myself go between breakfast and now. BAD HOMER!
Snack (1030am). I went to the movies and saw "Bridesmaids" (Hilarious, 2 thumbs up) and "Priest" (aww hell no!)
-Small Popcorn
-Large Diet Coke
-Raisnets (5oz)
Lunch (3pm) - Family Party
-Menudo - 6oz
-2 Baby back ribs
-Vegetable with pork - 6oz (Pinakbit - another filipino dish)
...and that's not the worst part...
-Fruit Salad with some heavy cream - a lot of it
-Flan
-6 slices of mango
-Filipino drink high in sugar, 12oz
...and to finish it all off...
-venti cafe latte from starbucks.
Where the heck is my "accountability partner"! I like to run downhill and take a nose-dive at the bottom.

Day 3 (for May 13th)
Breakfast (625am)
-4 pieces of Hormel non-gluted bacon
-2 hard-boiled eggs
-2x24oz coffee
Lunch (1140am)
-Flame Broiler - Works bowl. You will find out soon enough that I eat at Flame Broiler at least 4 days of the week, and I have yet to get sick of it. It does get a little expensive though.
-2x20oz iced tea, unsweetened
Snacking
-5 oz of cranberry, almonds, and cashew trail mix
WOD
This happens to be the baseline workout for the nutritional challenge. At the end of the 60 days, I will be doing this again to hopefully see progression.
Fight Gone Bad - 3 rounds of 1 min max reps each in the order of Wall Balls (20lb to 10ft), Sumo Deadlift High Pull (75lbs), 20" Box Jumps, Push Press (75lbs), Rowing for calories. Rest 1 minute in between.
Total Reps finished: 320 (PR!)
Dinner
-25-30 oz of Pick-Up Stix Mongolian Beef
-About 15 strawberries
-About 50 almonds
I know my dinner kinda got away from me. I'll do better next time...see ya!

Day 2 - last half of my day (for May 12th)
Ok. So apparently my first shot at blogging came to an abrupt end. The site that was used before is at least being worked on but definitely unusable at the moment. Therefore, instead of waiting for it to come back, I just went ahead and created a new one. It sucks, but I'm over it. Let's do this!
Lunch (1145am, my breakfast was on my lost blog)
-Flame Broiler Works regular bowl - veggies, chicken, beef...see flamebroiler.com if you want more info
-2x24oz unsweetened iced tea
WOD (6p-7p)
3 rounds for time of:
150m run
15 overhead squats at 95lbs
150m run
30 double unders
Finished time: 12min 40sec
Before and after the WOD, I had a total of 4 x 3/4" cube paleo bars (hopefully they really were, they're home-made).
Dinner (8pm)
12 oz of pork menudo (is there any other kind?)
4 oz coconut juice
1 banana
There you have it, Day 2.
