Day 21 is has just ended for me (unless I go snack up within the next couple of hours)

Breakfast (620am)
-3 eggs, sunny-side up
-2 chicken sausages (2oz ea)

WOD (6p-7p)
-Cash in with 400m run, then follow with 18-12-6 of 135lb thruster and burpees with 5 pullups in-between and at the end (i.e. 3x5), then finally cashout with a 400m run...20min cap

Dinner (830p) at Chipotle
-Steak bowl - steak, fajita veggies, sour cream, salsa, guacamole (plus another 3oz of guacamole on the side)
-3 oz of pampanu fish (i think that's what it's called)

Fo sheezy my neezy....Day 21

100 burpee challenge

Ok, so I'm laughing as I type this up. What if there are consequences if we have even a sip of alcohol before the nutritional challenge ends? I, Homer Maniago, propose the 100 Burpee Challenge. For everytime we have alcohol before the 60 days is over we pay for it by doing 100 burpees the next day. Obviously this will work under the honor code and will definitely make us think twice about being rediculously bad. Who's with me? Anybody?..Anybody?...helllooo? (I understand only 4 people somewhat follow this and I could very well be talking to myself).

Days 17, 18, 19 & 20

So I haven't actually posted anything these past few days and you're probably wondering why. It's called "shame." Those 3 things that I feared per my Day 16 post apparently all came true. Let's see if I can remember what I had.

Day 17 : 'twas an alright day...

Breakfast at IHOP (745am):
-Colorado omelette
-24oz coffe
-4 oz of mixed fruit

Lunch at Flame Broiler (12pm)
-Flame Broiler works bowl
-16oz of unsweetened ice tea

Snack
-5 oz of Apple Crisp by Paleo People...expensive but awesome

WOD:
-"Pizza and Beer" - 125 kettle bell swings at 53 lbs for time, but every minute on the minute 5 burpees must be done...therefore start with the burpees.
Result: 7min.28 seconds....this is a forearm burner and something that would probably make someone throw up.

But then....

Dinner at the Tilted Kilt in the LBC (8pm)...come on! it was a guys' night out and it was a buddy's birthday
-4 oz of grilled herb chicken, mixed vegetables
-8 oz bentley margarita (not paleo)
-2 norcal margaritas, on the rocks, double shot
-half pint of dos xx beer
-2 irish car bombs
-about 6 oz of fries (regular, garlic, and sweet potato)
-5 oz of Banana Crisp by Paleo People

That was Day 17.

Now for Day 18. Woke up hungover but like a trooper I pressed on...

Breakfast: None (didn't wake up in time for that)

Lunch at Wood Ranch Grill (12pm)
-10 oz of prime rib
-8 oz of broccoli

Dinner at Honda Ya in Downtown LA (Little Tokyo, yakitori and sushi place, 6pm)
Yakitori are skewered dishes, but they're not very big. Think of sticks about 4-5 inches long with meat stuck to them.
-2 pork bellies
-1 chicken liver
-2 bacon-wrapped sausage
-2 something somethings. I forgot what they were called.
-3 oz of salmon sashimi (not yakitori)
-16 oz of Asahi beer

This was a buddy's going away event so we decided to move it to a hotdog/bar place called Wurstkuche:
-pint of an amber beer
-pint of light beer
-buffalo, beef, and pork with sweet peppers hot dog (yes, with the bun)

Day 18 done and now for Day 19

Breakfast (none, again)

I went to the movies and watched Hangover 2...movie sucked...had small popcorn

Lunch and Dinner (I had to put this together because I was in a haze for the most part)
-probably 12 oz of carne asada
-lots of tortilla chips with a guacamole dip and non-bean dip (this was freakin' awesome...i think it was made from cream cheese and salsa)
-???? oz of beer (Pacifico, bud light)
-few oz of skinny margarita (didn't help)
-more ???? oz of beer (went to a bar)

Day 20

Breakfast at Denny's (5am)...woke up in my car :)
-Omelette with sausage, bacon, and ham
-2 pcs of sausage and bacon each

-2 oz of pancakes. I was glad that the pancakes were terrible, otherwise I would've eaten it all

No lunch
-had small popcorn...saw a movie...again

Dinner (6pm)
-1 oz of chicken sausage
-6 oz of rotisserie chicken

There you have it, Days 17 through 20

Thursday, May 26, 2011

The 3-day weekend is fast approaching!

afterwards, 21-15-9 of overhead lunges with 45lb plate, pushups with 45lb plate on back, situps with 45lb pound plate held out in front (straight arm)
Result: 11min45sec, i think

Dinner (830p)
-carne asada plate with salad (tomatoes, lettuce, no croutons, italian dressing)
-12oz of diet coke

Day 16 done!

Wednesday, May 25, 2011

Day 15

Good morning and Happy Wednesday! I need to refocus because I think I can do a lot better in this challenge. Let the 45 Day Challenge begin! Anyway, I weighed myself this morning at 6am...170.8lbs. Not too shabby.

Quote of the day:

"Change, sh--
I guess change is good for any of us
Whatever it take for any of y'all ni---z to get up out the hood
Sh--, I'm wit cha, I ain't mad at cha..."

-Tupac, "I Ain't Mad at Cha"...I was listening to it this morning and it stuck to me.

Breakfast (615am):
-4 pieces of turkey bacon
-2 eggs sunny-side up
-24oz coffee.
I'll try, sometime this week, to add some vegetables in the morning--maybe some broccoli or cauliflower. I'll also try to eat something else other than bacon and eggs.

-mixed nuts, dried mango (tot. 4 oz)

I still think I can do without the dried mangos because of the sugar. I won't buy them anymore. There...figured it out!

So...

So recently I've been having conversations with some people regarding exercise and nutrition. It came up because one person in particular is having a great amount of stress at work and at home, and their fading physical health. Naturally I talked about crossfit and the paleolithic diet because heck, that's what we crossfitters do no matter how douche (spelling?) we sound. I explained what crossfit is and the idea behind it but somehow it progressed quickly to the price of becoming a member.

Obviously I talked about the higher membership fee of a crossfit gym compared to the globo gym that this person currently has. I made a point that a globo gym can only take you so far especially when you don't get the knowledge and support of an actual trainer on a regular basis like you would at a crossfit gym. Pay more now and get results OR keep paying the low membership fees and see absolutely nothing? Plus I think it's more fun to do workouts together with other people, creating a competitive and intense environment, than having to half-ass curls and treadmill runs alone. This person didn't budge, not even a bit. Price is important and I certainly understood that because of our current economic state.

Ok, fine. Crossfit is expensive and there is no money for it. Got it.

Maybe I could help this person out by talking about going paleo in their diet. I'm not the most knowledgeable person in the world regarding this subject, but I was able to point out bread and sugar = bad, meat and vegetables = good. To help my cause, I even emailed them some literarture and links to websites (i.e. robbwolf.com). I asked them to try it for 30 days, heck, even try it for 3 weeks because I'm sure they'll be able to see some results that it will work. This person responded with one excuse after another. A couple, in particular was "I know, I know...but it's too hard" and "(grains) is like a drug and I need it". Mind you, this is the person who knows the problem, wants a solution to the problem, gets a fire-proof solution to the problem, but can't muster up a little sacrifice to fix it.

Luckily that's how the conversation ended and this person walked away because I was just getting annoyed. I might have said things that I would regret so in a way that was a fine. It did make me realize something about some people...not everybody, just some. There are 2 kinds of people, the "go-getters" and the "pity me" type. Given the same problems, the "go-getters" will take the initiative to seek for help, seriously take up sound advice, and then try to fix it asap while the "pity me" type will wait 'til someone pities them enough to fix the problem for them. Unfortunately for the "pity me" type, there aren't that many willing to help as that's not how the world is.

(I know I probably didn't deliver this as well as I could but I was really bugged about this today)

Day 13

Day 13. Got up at around 6am, and my calves are STILL sore. I don't know if I'll be able to work out today but we'll see.

-2 x 24oz of coffee

-yogurt dip

Snack
-3 oz of cashew, almond, pineapple, pecans, cranberry trail mix
-2 oz dried mango
-cashew, almond, pecans trail mix

WOD (6-7pm)
-Strength: backsquats
3 set of 5 reps of 75%  max = 185lbs
2 x 3 of 85% max = 205lbs
The weights felt a little light, I think I should max out again on backsquats.

-Cardio:
100 each of squats, hand-release pushups, situps
Result: 12min flat

Dinner:
-beefsteak and onions 12oz
-8oz zico water

Day 12

Sunday Sunday Sunday!

Breakfast (845am):
-15oz steak - lemon marinated and onions
-1 egg, sunny-side up

WOD:
none. zero. nope. zilch. nada.

My calves are sore, probably because of the Inov-8s. Hopefully it's making my running technique better.

Lunch (1pm): Boiling Crab
-1 lb of shrimp with lemon, butter, garlic, and other sauces mixed together
-6 oysters
My hands wreaked afterwards, go figure.

Snack
-2 oz of dried mango
-4 oz of raw mixed nuts (no peanuts)

Day 11

I know it's early but I'm about to go to sleep...on a Saturday night...at 9pm....wow. Anyway, before I go to sleep, I'll give you a rundown on my day.

I wake up at 530 am and hit the snooze button twice, so technically I got up around 6am. I put on my running gear and drove to Huntington Beach to meet some friends for a morning run.

WOD  (740am):
-6 mile run (something I was suppose to do last saturday). Finished in 52min, 20sec. I used my Inov-8 230s. They hurt my feet a little but I think it takes some getting used to. Oh well.

Brunch (1030am) at Sugar Shack, an awesome breakfast place:
-Banana
-8oz Steak and 2 eggs
-side of fruit
-also...........1 pancake with butter and syrup....I couldn't fight it, it smelled too good

I went to the movies later on, but instead of buying popcorn inside the theatre, I went to Trader Joe's.
-5oz or organic popcorn
-3.5oz of dark chocolate with almonds (73% cacao)
(Yes, I snuck these in)
-24oz of diet coke, no control over this
I saw Pirates of the Caribbean 4. 2-1/2 stars out of 4. Didn't really do it for me.

Dinner (730p) at Woodranch Grill:
-6oz of grilled, marinated atlantic salmon
-5oz of mashed sweet potatoes.

I have to start cooking more as my meals are getting more expensive. At least it wasn't a complete cheat day. Anyway, Day 11 done son!

Dinner at Slater's 50/50
Before the "WTFs!" and skeptical smirks you guys are making, I was pretty damn good considering the circumstances.

-Firebeef burger - WITHOUT the bun, lettuced wrapped. Had cheese though but I deserved it (see WOD)
-10 pieces of sweet potato fries. Drew is an evil person.

They'll never get to read this because only 3 people follow me, but shout out to the Barbell for Boobs crew for hanging out with the Our Elite is Your Intermediate crew at Slater's as they were very cool.

I'm writing this before I go to sleep so I'll just tell you now that I ate better than the previous days. I weighed myself earlier this morning (6am) and the result.....(drum roll please!!)...175lbs. I freakin' gained 3 lbs from Day 2. At least it's well documented why I gained the extra weight...see Days 4 and 5.

It looks here like I'm going backwards with this diet, though I have not given up. I keep thinking to myself that it's ok to eat like crap because of the long workouts, like I somewhat deserve it. This is the wrong way of thinking so I'll try to do a better job in the coming days.

Saturday, May 14, 2011

Day 4

I was supposed to run 6 miles today but my right hamstring seems to be acting up. It possibly could be because of my 320 score for FGB!...WASSSSUPPP!! All kidding aside, I think it was because of my 185lb overhead squat that I just PRd on!...WASSSSUPPP x 2!!! In reality I don't know why. It could just be old age.

Breakfast
-4 pieces of bacon
-1 chicken sausage
-1 cube of fried pork ("krispy pata" to all the filipinos)

Ok. I post as soon as I could get a computer what I ate. This is not gonna be good because somehow I totally let myself go between breakfast and now. BAD HOMER!

I know my dinner kinda got away from me. I'll do better next time...see ya!

Day 2 - last half of my day (for May 12th)

Ok. So apparently my first shot at blogging came to an abrupt end. The site that was used before is at least being worked on but definitely unusable at the moment. Therefore, instead of waiting for it to come back, I just went ahead and created a new one. It sucks, but I'm over it. Let's do this!

12 oz of pork menudo (is there any other kind?)
4 oz coconut juice
1 banana

There you have it, Day 2.
